Student accused of theft stabbed by teen in Sophia school

Police are now investigating an incident which resulted in a 15-year-old student attached to the Mercy Wings Vocational School, South Sophia, Georgetown being stabbed by another teenager on Monday afternoon.

According to information received, the incident occurred at around 12:30hrs in the school compound.

INews understands that at the time mentioned, the 15-year-old of “D” Field, South Sophia, Georgetown and a 17-year-old suspect of North Mocha, East Bank Demerara, were allegedly fighting over a cellphone which the suspect accused the victim of stealing.

The suspect reportedly drew a knife and stabbed the 15-year-old once to his right side abdomen.

The young teen was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation by his teacher and was subsequently admitted to the Intensive Care Unit.

The 17-year-old was arrested and is presently in custody. The knife used has also been lodged.

Investigations are ongoing.
