A family, including two young children, are now left homeless following a fire at their Unity, East Coast Demerara home on Monday evening.
According to information received, at around 19:15hrs, two children- ages 6 and 5 years old- were reportedly home alone in the two story wooden building they shared with their parents.
The 5-year-old was reportedly playing with matches, when a sofa in the home caught alight.
This resulted in the house quickly being engulfed in flames.
Police “C” Division Commander, Calvin Brutus confirmed that no one was injured, however, the entire home was destroyed.
An investigation is presently ongoing. (Ramona Luthi)
