Sharma Solomon among contenders for PNC/R Leadership

[www.inewsguyana.com] – Chairman of Region 10, Sharma Solomon will be contesting for the leadership position of the PNC/R during the Party’s 18th Biennial Congress, which will be held from Friday July 25 to Sunday July 27, 2014.

Also contesting for the post is Aubrey Norton and Leader of the Opposition, David Granger. Solomon and Norton along with Basil Williams will also be contesting for the chairmanship position of the party.

Meanwhile Volda Lawrence, George Norton and Stanley Paul will contest for the Vice chairs position. Ronald Balkan and Clement Corlette will contest the Treasurer’s position.

At a press conference this morning, it was noted that 91 persons have accepted nominations for the central executive committee.

The congress will be held under the theme: PNCR for National Unity, Good Governance and Development.”

More 1,000 delegates and observers from the ten regions will be participating and indeed, some members of delegations have already started to arrive.

The Congress will begin with the formal opening ceremony on Friday, which will be centered on the feature address of the Party Leader, Granger during which it is expected that he will make an analysis of the political and economic situation in Guyana and outline his vision of the way in which the Party will prepare itself to tackle the numerous challenges of the coming years.

“We anticipate that this will be a wide ranging address which will lay the basis for the policies of the PNCR as it, along with A Partnership for National Unity (APNU), prepares itself for elections, both local and national.”

Questions and Motions submitted by the Party organs for the attention of Congress would be examined before the close of the second day.

The election of office bearers for the new biennium will take place on Sunday.

The congress is also expected to see the burning issue relating to the suspension of Vanessa Kissoon by the Leader.

  1. pretty soon you will hear names like David Granger Singh or Solomon Koosi Persaud leading PNC:::Just like how PNC went from __PNC–to-PNCR–to-PNCRIG-to-APNU..their names will change to fit their agenda ..

  2. This will really screw things up for the opportunistic AFC.
    The AFC may be the tail trying to wag the dog (PNCR).
