Shami take four wickets in West Indies collapse

[]The West Indies batting suffered a dismal failure this morning in Eden gardens when their first test on tour of India bowled off.

The side were put on the back foot early with the loss of Chris Gayle to Buveshwar Kumar for 18 after the score was 34 and Keiran Powell a few overs later for 28.

However, the lone solider Marlon Samuels stood his ground with Darren bravo as they put on a partnership for 91 runs before the Jamaican departed for 65.

His total came compliments of 11 fours and 2 sixes in just 98 balls. Shivnarine Chanderpaul came to the crease and tried to steady the ship with his 36 but got frustrated.

Meanwhile, Mohammed Shami ended with four wickets in his 17 overs for the hosts which went for 71 runs and included 2 maidens while Ravichandran Ashwin accounted for 2 of the wickets to fall in his 21 over spell which went for 52 runs.

Pragyan Ojah, Sachin Tendulkar and Buveshwar Kumar had one wicket each

India are now trailing by 198 runs with Murali Vijay and Shikar Dahwan at the crease on 16 and 21.

So far Captain Darren Sammy has utilized 4 bowlers in Tino Best, Sheldon Cotrell, Shane Shillingford and Verasammy Permaul Day two will commence at 23:20 hrs this evening.
