‘Paper man’ loses leg in Essequibo Crash

[www.inewsguyana.com]A 61 – year – old newspaper vendor Bhagwandin Naraine known as ‘Babugee’ and ‘Paper man’ of Lima Housing Scheme, Essequibo Coast lost his right leg just after midday Wednesday, November 6 after a speeding van collided with the motorcycle he was riding on the Sparta Public Road, Essequibo Coast.

Reports indicate that Naraine, who would normally distribute daily newspapers to residents from Anna Regina to Somerset and Berks on the Essequibo Coast was on his way home when a speeding van proceeding in a Northernly direction hit the motorcycle he was riding and severed his right leg before plunging into a nearby drain.

Pages from newspapers were seen flying in all directions on the public road as public spirited citizens rushed to help the badly injured newspaper vendor who is very well known on the Essequibo Coast. According to reports, the driver of the van was transporting frozen chicken to Charity when he ended up in the accident. He is currently in police custody. [Rajendra Prabhulall]
