[www.inewsguyana.com] – Some three months after the May 11 general and regional elections, President David Granger visited the mining town of Linden on Friday, September 18, where he met with residents and expressed the APNU+AFC’s appreciation for the overwhelming support it received at the polls.

The President assured the residents of his commitment to the development of the town and region. According to the Ministry of the Presidency, in a brief comment, the President said that the ‘walkabout’ was to meet and thank the people of Linden who came out solidly in favour of the Coalition on May 11.

He acknowledged that Linden does have problems, especially as it relates to employment for young people and access to education, noting that children with special needs are at a disadvantage since they are not catered for satisfactorily by the education system.

“I will be back in October to sit down with the people to work out with them and the corporate community here to see how we are going to deal with these two issues. Every child must be in school and every child leaving school must be able to look forward to a job,” President Granger said.

He assured Regional Chairman, Renis Morian and the residents that over the next five years, the Coalition Government will address decisively, the issue of youth unemployment in the region.

The President was warmly received by Lindeners, who came out in their numbers; his first stop was at the McKenzie Market where he walked along the tarmac greeting vendors, school children, teachers, mini-bus and taxi operators and other residents who were part of the busy Friday afternoon crowd.

According to the release, he and his entourage then proceeded to Blueberry Hill and then to One Mile in Wismar, where the crowds were just as excited to meet the President.

  1. Looks like the rumour is true. Like Granger really sick for true. Unemployment is a problem in all the regions of Guyana. It has become a bigger problem under the coalition. His administration has fired more people than it has employed. They had complained that Sooba was a square peg in round holes. What about Welch? Ramaya? Jaipaul? ……This man only has plans to address in Region 10; the same people who pay $5 per kilowatt for electricity whilst all other pay almost a dozen time that amount. Why not the other regions? Probably because the majority of those people did not vote right at the last elections. Is this the social cohesion Amna went and tell the people in Linden about?

  2. Why is region 10 so special. These people don’t pay for electricity consumption but use the most while the rest of Guyana has to pay their fair share. Granger you weren’t placed into this Coalation to only address region 10 unemployment issues but rather all Guyana.

  3. They were told they don’t have to work the govt will take care of them because they were faithful to the pnc govt so he will provide them with free food clothes water and electricity

The installed acting president of Guyana Granger must first ask not only Linden for all of it’s main core support base villages if they really want to work for an honest living like most other Guyanese do. Granger must first tell them that if they want brand name stuff then don’t go rob and kill for it. Take for instance the one that murdered a businessman and robbed him of his hard earned dollars where police caught him at Princess Hotel Casino. They dont steal to eat but they steal to buy brand name stuff and to gamble.
