[www.inewsguyana.com] – A meeting of the Central Committee of the People’s Progressive Party (PPP) on November 14 saw the removal long time members, Robert Persaud and Omar Sharief from the Committee.

General Secretary of the Party, Clement Rohee told a press conference on Monday, November 16, 2015 that the Committee “unanimously” declared the seats vacant, owing to the non – attendance of the duo at meetings.

The members filling replacing them are Bibi Shafora Shadick, Majeed Hussain and Harrinarine Baldeo. Rohee further noted that the Central Committee reserved for consideration at a later date, the status of the seats of the Central Committee occupied by Hydar Ally, Chitrekha Das and Gurdat Shivperaud.

“Filling of two seats at the ExCo declared vacant long ago with the passing of Navin Chandarpal and non-attendance by Robert Persaud as well as a vacant seat on the Secretariat with the resignation of Hydar Ally will all be considered at a later date by the Central Committee,” Rohee said.

Persaud served in various positions under the former PPP government, once heading the Government Information Agency (GINA) before becoming Minister of Agriculture and subsequently Minister of Natural Resources and the Environment.

He was among the few former government ministers, including Nanda Gopaul and Carolyn Rodrigues, who acknowledged the victory of the APNU+AFC at the May 11 general and regional elections.

This has since led to differences with Persaud and others within the PPP camp and since their loss at the elections, Persaud withdrew himself from the political arena.

Meanwhile, Sharief has taken up a senior position at the Ministry of the Presidency under the APNU+AFC government.

  2. Sharief was tipped to be the next HPS…. Lil Joe Harmon gun give he water to fetch in basket…. according to the AFC propaganda machinery Lambada was identified as one of the richest Ministers in the Caribbean so much so that his US based family ripped him off of millions and he can’t do squat about it… in fact, the AFC said that he was migrating based on self sponsorship based on financial capacity….

  3. This is so funny. Sharief was thought by many to be stealing and fraudulent selling the Min. of Health drugs to pharmacies when he was the Head of the Food and Drugs warehouse in Kingston. I was told by a senior official at the Min. of Health that Sharief had opened his own pharmacy. We need a private org. to scrutinise these govt cabals.

  4. Naga and Rum Jhaat might have woo Robee and Gopa to join them.It appear as it they are crossing the floor.Their days will be numbered.
