Rawle De Mattos, from Free Yard, Port Mourant in Corentyne, Berbice is now a patient at the New Amsterdam Hospital where he is nursing chop wounds to his head after being robbed and attacked late last night.
Reports are that around 21:00hrs yesterday, De Mattos was about to enter his yard when two men armed with a hand gun and a cutlass confronted him.
Police, in a statement this morning, said the two bandits held him at gun-point and brandished the cutlass in front of him while issuing threats as they attempted to relieve him of his property.
However, De Mattos put up a resistance against the duo and it was during the scuffle that he was chopped to his head by the perpetrator who had been brandishing the cutlass.
They managed to rob the injured man of his cellular phone and Gy$6,000 before making good their escape.
The Police said De Mattos was subsequently rushed to the New Amsterdam Hospital where he is presently a patient as law enforcement officials continue their investigation into the robbery and attack.
