Police Storm to early Inter-Service Athletics Championships Lead

[www.inewsguyana.com]The Guyana Police Force has drawn first blood in this year’s Inter-Service Athletics Championships with a win in the 10k Road Relays held Sunday, November 3.

The five member team stopped the clock in a time of 34 minutes 17 seconds to take the top spot in the first event of Guyana’s premier disciplined services’ sports.

The Annual event began with the 10k which commenced at the Police Training School, Eve Leary, before it proceeded to the University of Guyana (UG) main road with the return leg finishing at the police mess hall.

Kevin Bayley’s, Dennis Horatio and John Jhonson’s 2km each coupled with a 3km brawling effort from Nathaniel Giddings and Jonella Jonas (1km) accounted for the police’s opening win.

Meanwhile, the Guyana Defense force’s team was just steps behind their counterparts stopping the clock in a time of 34 minutes.

The Guyana Defence Force (GDF) was a close second in a time of 34 minutes, 26 seconds while the Guyana Fire Service took third in a time of 45 minutes, 32 seconds.

The City Constabulary ended in the cellar with a time of 47 minutes, 47 seconds. The “Joint Services Sports” will continue with the track and field on November 12 at the Camp Ayanganna ground.
