Kishore Stuns Field; Sukhram Remains Ladies Champ

[www.inewsguyana.com]Teenage sensation Avinda Kishore put in a composed performance to storm a field of experienced golfers when the two day Digicel Guyana Open golf tournament concluded on Sunday.

‘Ganguly’ as he is known on the greens was nowhere in contention for the top spot after the first day of action when the duo of the defending champion Avinash Persaud and New York’s Jaipaul Suknanan held the number one post jointly with a gross 75 with Mike Mangal on their heels with 76.

None the less, the youngster showcased his talents in the face of grueling competition to pull off a major upset in the championship Flight (0-9 handicap), after holding off Persaud and Patrick Prashad.

He finished with a gross 151, ahead of Prashad, who took second spot ahead of Persaud on a count back after both ended with 152 gross.

Prashad, however had the best net of 137 in the Championship Flight, ahead of Mangal (138) and Kishore (141).

Sukhram on the other hand continued her imposing dominance on the sport after carting off her 8th Guyana Open with a net 136, ahead of Shanella Webster (144) and Joann Deo (150).

The Female Open champion also recorded the best gross of 156, while Deo with 194 and Webster with 210 were demoted to second and third respectively.

Meanwhile, Roy Cummings and Esau Shamshudin won the B Flight (10-18) and C Flight (19-28) respectively. The duo of Sukhram and Kishore both received one year free membership from the Lusignan Golf Club.

Over 70 golfers from Guyana, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago, Canada and the U.S.A., represented the makeup of the 2013 edition tournament.
