[www.inewsguyana.com] – There has been no opposition within the People’s Progressive Party Civic (PPP/C) to have President Donald Ramotar run as the Party’s presidential candidate at the next general elections.
“I haven’t seen any reason why not. That question hasn’t arisen anywhere….the question has not arisen, nothing like that has ever arisen,” President Ramotar told reporters as he responded to questions by the media at State house on Saturday (July, 26).
He expressed confidence that the Party will win at the next elections and regain the majority.
“The PPP has always been making broad appeals…we have not been making narrow appeals to the Guyanese people…we continue to work to convince the majority of Guyanese people that our policies are the best for Guyana”.
He noted that their record will show their outperformance to any other Government in power in this country.
He also spoke briefly about the state of GECOM’s readiness for any elections and pointed out that if GECOM needs six months to prepare for a snap election, then clearly they are not ready.
“We have to always be ready for any elections. This is because of the opposition’s one seat majority in the National Assembly. The joint opposition got one more seat than us which means that at anytime they can pass a no confidence motion…so from that point of view we will have to always be ready for any elections”.
The Alliance for Change continues to threaten Government with its plans to move a no confidence motion in the National Assembly. The Party’s Leader, Khemraj Ramjattan said the motion has been drafted and they are waiting to use it at the right time.
