[www.inewsguyana.com] – New United States Ambassador to Guyana Perry Halloway has over the past several days called on a number of government ministers to discuss on going US-Guyana relations.
Ambassador Halloway met with the Minister of Finance Wnston Jordan, Minister of Business Dominic Gaskin, Minister of Social Protection Volda Lawrence and Minister within the Ministry of Social Protection, Simona Broomes. Accompanying Ambassador Halloway was Frisco McDonald, Economic Officer at the US Embassy.
According to a release from the Ministry of Business: “During the meeting, Minister Gaskin conveyed to Mr. Halloway the role of the Ministry of Business in the economic development of Guyana.
“Minister Gaskin further identified some of the challenges facing the country economically and pointed to the need for the development of the value-added sector and increasing foreign investment in Guyana’s economy. He also highlighted the importance of improving the ease of doing business in Guyana and pointed to the need of an automated processing system to handle business transactions with the Government.”
The release added: “Ambassador Halloway pointed to the goodwill the new Government is currently enjoying, as well as the international attention it is receiving following its incident-free elections and recent oil discovery. Mr. Halloway urged that the Government capitalize on this opportunity, re-iterating the US government’s commitment to working with Government to develop Guyana.”
