Caner Institute[www.inewsguyana.com] – An iNews Poll has found that there needs to be more awareness of cancer prevention in Guyana.

The question, “Is enough being done to promote cancer prevention/awareness in Guyana?” was asked, where 87 percent of persons voted ‘no’, 10 percent ‘yes’ and three percent of voters were undecided.

Recently, three prominent members of the Guyanese society lost the battle to the disease. These include, Former Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Deborah Backer; President of the Private Sector Commission, Ron Webster and Governor of the Bank of Guyana, Lawrence Williams.

Recent statistics show that one million new cases of different cancers are diagnosed every year in India; an estimated 600,000 to 700,000 people were killed in 2012. For every 1,200 Indians in India there is one Guyanese.
