Man accused of cuffing wife fined $20,000

DSC05031Forty – two – year old Ronald Williams appeared before Magistrate Judy Latchman and pleaded not guilty to the offense of common assault.

He is accused of committing the assault against his common – law wife Arleene George on August 05 at South Road Georgetown. Police prosecutor Vishnu Hunt told the court that the defendant is in the habit of assaulting the woman whenever he consumes alcohol and on the day in question; he accused his reputed wife of going out with other men.

According to the prosecutor, the man allegedly cuffed the woman, pulled her hair and dragged her down a staircase. Williams was fined $20,000, and in default of paying the fine, will have to spend six months imprisonment. [Royan Abrams]
