[www.inewsguyana.com] – Persons who may be culpable of siphoning off Government funds and grossly misusing State resources to their own end should be dealt with by the Guyana Police Force (GPF).

These were the sentiments expressed by Opposition Leader, Bharrat Jagdeo when questioned about revelations made following financial audits of several State agencies.

He said that instead of taking the legally prescribed route, the Government is now instead trying to make the PPP look bad with the release of information from the audits.

“They have to make us look bad….there are no professional audits…Find the people and deal with them…find them and lock them up,” said Jagdeo.

“If you think that somebody at THD (Transport and Harbours Department)…was doing wrong and the audit proved that, call in the police tomorrow, what is the problem?” he added.

This comes on the heels of revelations that over $1B appeared to have been siphoned off from the earnings of the Transport and Harbours Department under the PPP administration in the years 2003 – 2007.

In 2003, the amount of $597M was reported as income; however a review by the Auditor General disclosed an income of $639M – a difference of $43M between the actual income and the stated amount.

Again, in 2004, the operating income was stated as $332M; however the AG’s report showed an income of $639M – a difference of $307M.

For 2005, the stated amount was $362M with the actual income being $658M; a difference of $295M. The trend continued in 2006 and 2007 with understatements being $317M and $112M respectively. It is a grand total of $1.074B.

  1. The fools of the APNU is installed by the USA and EU to destroy Guyana! These guys will flood them with money to promote crime, racism and looting. Once the dollar value hit the bottom of the barrel, the USA will bring to buy OIL for pennies! This is why Granger and CO was installed. Guyana economy is slowing dying, crime rate has hit the roof….the USA study them well to understand that this government only needed 1 term to sink the ship…..

  2. Jagde is right ..apnc taking down Guyana economy ..it will be halt by a crash ..d gov ..jokers ..just interested in dem pocket

  3. Totally agreed with you Samuel Kingston. Race is a factor. If these permanent secretaries were Indo-Guyanese they would be behind bars by now.

  4. Well, well, well! There’s a hurricane now slamming the north-east of Mexico – and here in Guyana, there is a Hurricane of sorts, as the WINDS OF CHANGE are now swirling in any which way!

  5. Jagdeo is right! He should be leading the way to Camp Street, were it not for the immunity clause. Nevertheless, the boy continues to show he does not care about his own leaders by urging they be locked up seeing they don’t have presidential immunity.

  6. Agreed mr. President. Lock up them permanent secretaries because they are the accounting officer for the various ministries. They are the ones that are culpable. I cannot understand how these guys are still on the jobs. The only reason i can see is because they are afro guyanese.
