[www.inewsguyana.com]– Ranks drawn from the Joint Services have commenced Internal Security Training, ahead of the May 11 general and regional elections.

The training is being held at the Inter- Services Institute of Internal Security Studies and hosted by the Guyana Defence Force.

A media release the GDF stated that, “the training is timely in wake of Guyana’s preparation for the 2015 General and Regional Elections.”

The Guyana Defence Force, the Guyana Police Force and the Guyana Fire Service have provided a cadre of instructors for the training.

The training is geared towards the middle and lower echelons of the services and it is meant to exercise the junior command element in managing different internal security scenarios. During the training, ranks will review regulations, laws and procedures and acquaint themselves with their specific roles in Internal Security operations.

At the end of the training there will be a debriefing session where lessons learnt will be evaluated. Participants will be able to share experiences, observations and make recommendations. This would then see a refinement of techniques based on the prevailing situations.

The GDF is not the lead agency in the conduct of Internal Security Operations and the Inter-Services Training brought to focus its supportive role to the civil powers.
