[www.inewsguyana.com] – Newly-appointed Slovak Republic Ambassador, Mila Cigan presented his Letters of Credence to President Donald Ramotar at the Office of the President on Wednesday, March 26.
He reaffirmed his country’s dedication to deepen the cordial relationship that it shares with Guyana, according to the Government Information Agency.
In accepting and welcoming the newly appointed ambassador, President Ramotar said that the two countries have a lot of areas in common.
“Areas such as mining and agriculture both of which we can find areas of cooperation”.
He expressed his optimism that they would have even closer ties in the future. Ambassador Cigan said that he was privileged to be serving as his nation’s representative to Guyana.
“I’m and honoured to be here to start work on a new chapter of relations between Slovak and Guyana”.
He added that he will continue efforts to develop the political, economic and cultural relationship between the two nations, and do his best to enhance future cooperation.
Ambassador Cigan, previously served as his country’s ambassador to neighbouring Brazil. Slovak Republic is a landlocked state in Central Europe. It has a population of over five million and an area of about 49,000 square kilometres (19,000 square miles).
Slovak is bordered by the Czech Republic and Austria to the west, Poland to the north, Ukraine to the east and Hungary to the south. The largest city is the capital, Bratislava, and the second largest is Košice. Slovakia is a member state of the European Union, NATO, United Nations, OECD and WTO among others. In July 1992 Slovakia, led by Prime Minister Vladimír Mečiar, declared itself a sovereign state.
