[www.inewsguyana.com]Guyana has won five of the eight awards for best regional performances at this year’s CSEC Exams in the Caribbean.

It was announced on Thursday October 24 by the Education Ministry that Yogeeta Persaud of Anna Regina Secondary School received the award for the Overall Outstanding Achievement; Rafena Mustapha of Saraswati Vidya School received the award for the most outstanding in Humanities; Cecil Cox of Queen’s College for Most Outstanding in Sciences; Sasha Woodroffe also of Queen’s College for Most Outstanding in Business and Zimeena Rasheed of Anna Regina Secondary School for Most Outstanding in Technical Vocational.

At a press conference, Education Minister Priya Manickchand stated that this is no surprise since Guyana has been on a trajectory for a number of years in copping such awards.

Manickchand used the opportunity to credit the government for the success in this area, as she noted that it is as a result of investments made in the education sector.

Guyana’s Zimeena Rasheed is this year’s top student in the country. She wrote twenty subjects and received 18 grade Ones and two grade twos.
