[www.inewsguyana.com] – The Guinness Greatest in the Streets football competition will for the first time make its way to the West Demerara region.

At the launching on Thursday, January 22 at Banks DIH Thirst Park headquarters, Brand Manager of Guinness, Lee Baptiste highlighted that the move to go to West Demerara region was part of the development plans to grow the game novelty game across the length and breadth of Guyana.

Baptiste also revealed that Trophy Stall will play a role in the tournament by providing trophies for the winners and jerseys for the teams.

A winning prize of $300,000 will be up for grabs for the first place finisher while second, third and fourth will receive $150,000, $100,000 and $75,000 respectively.

Public Relations Officer of Bank DIH, Troy Peters ensured that the West side teams will have equal opportunity to make it to the national showcase for a chance to represent Guyana at the International level.

The tournament will be played in four groups of four with the top two teams from each group advancing to the quarter-finals. The competition will start tonight from 19:00hrs and is expected to have games each night at the Pouderoyen Tarmac as well as the Vergenoegen Rice Mill Tarmac until February 7 when the final is held.

The participating teams are Golden Star, Brothers United, DeKenderen United, Vergenoegen, Patentia Street Ballers, Raiders, Maje Street, Demerara Speedboat Service, Young Warriors, Jetty, West Side Ballers, Pouderoyen Showstoppers, Admiral United, Den Amstel, Uitvlugt and Showtime.
