[www.inewsguyana.com] – Keon Kelvin of ‘C’ Field Sophia, Greater Georgetown was remanded to prison by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry for the offense of under arm.

The 25- year –   old defendant pleaded not guilty to the offence which alleged that on October 31; being armed with a gun he robbed Ann Welch of one shoulder bag which contained a Blackberry cellular phone, one bank card and $180,000 cash.

Police Prosecutor Bharat Mangru told the court that the VC had just left the bank where she withdrew the cash when she observed the defendant following her.

According to the reports, the woman went into a pharmacy to escape Kelvin but when she returned he pulled out a gun and demanded her bag. She subsequently reported the matter and the defendant was arrested and later identified during an identification parade.

Attorney-at-Law Paul Fung-A-Fat who represented Kelvin argued that no confession statements were taken from his client and no articles were recovered. The defendant’s lawyer added that the police claimed that his client was caught on camera but instead the tape shows another individual committing the act. He begged for a reasonable bail.

Mangru successfully objected bail citing the seriousness and prevalence of the offence. He added that the defendant may pose a flight risk and if granted bail he may not return for his trial. The father of one will return to court on December 18.
