[www.inewsguyana.com] – Thirty – one – year old Andrew Williams of Roxanne Burnham Garden, Georgetown, was yesterday remanded to prison for trafficking narcotics.

Williams appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry and pleaded not guilty to the charge, which alleged that on November 03, he had in his possession 28 and a half grammes of Marijuana for the purpose of trafficking.

Police Prosecutor, Michael Grant told the Court that on the day in question at around 22:10hrs, Police were on patrol duty around Roxanne Burnham Garden, when they searched Williams and found a transparent bag containing the illegal substance.

Representing the defendant was Attorney – at – Law, James Bond, who told the Court that his client is a father of three and requested bail in a reasonable sum.

Bond, during his application for bail, said that on the day in question his client was with a group of persons standing at a corner, when a police vehicle with four officers arrived.

Upon their arrival, the other men ran, but his client remained. Bond argued that the alleged substance was not found on his client but was found in a “corner.”

Bail was denied and the matter was transferred before Magistrate Ann McLennan for November 21.
