[www.inewsguyana.com] – The ruling People’s Progressive Party Civic (PPP/C) has taken umbrage to the recent instances where Opposition members invoked the name of its founder Leader, the Late Dr. Cheddi Jagan to accuse the party of being anti – working class during the ongoing budget debate.

According to the Party’s General Secretary (GS), Clement Rohee such utterances by Opposition Members of Parliament is hypocritical and only besmirches the character of Dr. Jagan.

“The PNC did everything they could to deny him his right to office through rigged elections and even when he gained office in 1992 they tried to silence him and destabilize the Jagan led administration,” the PPP GS told reporters.

Rohee recalled a public pledge by former President and PNC Leader Desmond Hoyte to ensure that Jagan did not become President, however after Jagan became President; the PNC threatened the Party’s existence in government.

He said it must be a lasting humiliation for the PNC/APNU to see that the Party remained in government.

He posited that the PPP has remained true to Jagan’s legacy which is reflected in the manner every budget is crafted as he debunked claims that the Party has strayed from the ideals of its late former leader.

“The Opposition ought to be ashamed to invoke Jagan’s name when they did all they could to undo all his work.”

Rohee said their action currently goes against his ideals as he pointed to their disapproval of funding for cheap energy, Amerindian development and the sugar industry.

He contended that this is the worst harm anyone could inflict to the former son of the soil.
