Playing at the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) ground, Bourda, Berbice were set 139 to win from 50 overs after Nickeen Noble picked up a five-wicket haul to bowl out Demerara for 138.

However, in the 43rd over, with just four runs needed and one wicket remaining, Daniel Mootoo effected a questionable ‘mankad’ of the non-striker Noble to seal the win.

Batting for Berbice, the left-handed Seon Glasgow Jnr played some audacious shots in his 22 (26 balls, 2x4s). Opening batsman Jerrone France, who batted smartly throughout the innings, fell for 47 (4x4s) with the score on 106-5 in the 25th over. Captain Jevon Schultz made 22. Left-arm spinner Micheal Pooran was the chief wicket-taker with 4-14.

Demerara’s total was built on a solid 42 (5 x 4s) from opener Sachin Singh, who shared a solid 48-run opening partnership with Shoaib Shaw, who made 24 (2 x 4s).

Yeudistir Persaud (29) and Daniel Paul with 12 were the other notable contributors. Left-arm spinner Noble, who picked up a hat-trick, ended with figures of 5-19 from seven overs, while Leon Swammy collected 2-15. (Guyana Times)
