[www.inewsguyana.com] – The members that will constitute the new Board of Directors of the Guyana Sugar Cooperation (GuySuCo) have been finally selected by President Donald Ramotar and his Cabinet.

This was disclosed by Agriculture Minister Dr. Leslie Ramsammy on Friday, March 14.

“Since this present Board’s life will come to an end in June, the new board will not take over until July 01 but there is a person that has been identified as the new Chair of the board,” Ramsammy said.

He declined however to make public the names of the persons selected, stating that it will be known at the appropriate time.

The life of the present Board was extended to June in November 2013 and consists of seven persons.

There have been widespread calls from the union and political opposition for a restructuring of the GuySuCo Board of Directors; a call the administration had undertaken to satisfy.

As a matter of fact, opposition parties have been calling for the resignation of the entire Board of the Corporation, citing incompetence and mismanagement as some of the main reasons for the underperformance of the company.

The Opposition believes that a revamp will strengthen the management of the entity and enable it to serve in the best interest of not only the industry but the workers and the nation.

The former Chair of the Board, Dr. Rajendra Singh has been appointed as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Company, while the then CEO, Paul Bhim is now the Deputy CEO.
