Berbice Robbery/Murder: Gunmen escaped with over half million in cash, six arrested

[www.inewsguyana.com] – The police have arrested six persons in connection with the robbery and murder in Hampshire, Corentyne Berbice on Monday night, which left 34 – year – old Davendra Deodat dead.

According to the police, at about 18: 30h on Monday October 7, Deodat called ‘Dave’ of Lot 72 Hampshire Squatting Area, was shot and killed during a robbery at his home by armed bandits, while Rafeek Abdul, 47 years, of Lot 63 Williamsburg, Corentyne suffered injuries.

Investigations revealed that the perpetrators entered the premises when they were confronted by Davendra’s daughter who raised an alarm. Davendra intervened and was shot to his chest, while Rafeek Abdul who arrived at the home on a visit was also shot to his left hand and abdomen by the perpetrators while escaping.

According to the police, the perpetrators escaped with $560,000.00, one gold band, a laptop computer and one cell phone.

Davendra Deodat and Abdul Rafeek were taken to the Port Mourant Hospital, where Deodat was pronounced dead on arrival, while Rafeek was referred to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation and admitted. Six persons are in police custody assisting with the investigations.

Reports also indicate that the dead man’s wife was also severely chopped by the bandits.
