[www.inewsguyana.com] – The People’s Progressive Party (PPP) is not in agreement with the number of investigations being conducted by the APNU+AFC government at several government agencies.

General Secretary, Clement Rohee told a news conference on Monday, June 15 noted that ever since APNU+AFC assumed office, dismissals of government officials have been legion and the “discoveries and investigations” of so-called wrong-doings almost daily.

He said as far as the PPP is concerned, these actions by the Coalition are tantamount to “political head hunting and forensic sleuthing. And that is precisely where the danger is. All these highly publicized actions are being taken without any just cause, any police investigations, any involvement of the Office of the Auditor General or the relevant Constitutional body nor production of any incontrovertible evidence.”

The PPP described the actions as arbitrary, vindictive, malicious and politically motivated “aimed at bringing the persons affected and the agencies they once headed into disrepute and by extension, to cast them, unjustly so as” corrupt wrong-doers.”

The Party also criticized the media, including the Chronicle, Kaieteur News, Stabroek News and iNews, accusing the media houses of “happily and profitably joined the band wagon by feeding their readers with a daily diet of these juicy and sensational stories without any attempt at being objective, fair and balanced in their reporting. The situation has become so ridiculous and nauseating that government ministers instead of briefing cabinet on their “discoveries” and, following discussion, a determination made on how the matter will be addressed routinely picks up the phone and calls a newspaper to report his or her discovery of a wrong-doing.”

See full statement below: The People’s Progressive Party (PPP) notes with interest the big masquerade embarked upon by the AFC/APNU Coalition aimed at creating the impression that it is “investigating” and putting to right” wrong doings” committed by the PPP/C administration.

Ever since assuming office dismissals of government officials have been legion and the “discoveries and investigations” of so-called wrong-doings almost daily. As far as the PPP is concerned, these actions by the Coalition are tantamount to political head hunting and forensic sleuthing. And that is precisely where the danger is. All these highly publicized actions are being taken without any just cause, any police investigations, any involvement of the Office of the Auditor General or the relevant Constitutional body nor production of any incontrovertible evidence. These actions are in essence; arbitrary, vindictive, malicious and politically motivated aimed at bringing the persons affected and the agencies they once headed into disrepute and by extension, to cast them, unjustly so as” corrupt wrong-doers.”.

Coupled with these actions at the political level, sections of the media namely the Chronicle, Kaieteur News and the Stabroek News and Inews have happily and profitably joined the band wagon by feeding their readers with a daily diet of these juicy and sensational stories without any attempt at being objective, fair and balanced in their reporting. The situation has become so ridiculous and nauseating that government ministers instead of briefing cabinet on their “discoveries” and, following discussion, a determination made on how the matter will be addressed routinely picks up the phone and calls a newspaper to report his or her “discovery of a wrong-doing”. A trial then commences in the media, based on suspicions which are given credence in the absence of due process and inconclusive evidence.

The truth is that while in opposition the AFC/APNU Coalition made all sorts of allegations about corruption and wrong-doings committed by the PPP/C while in government but they never presented any evidence to prove a case however, now they are in a position to do so they have failed miserably and have opted for a highly publicized campaign about investigating “wrong-doings and corrupt practices”.

Already, there is much chatter about setting up a “State Assets Recovery Unit” to recover assets allegedly syphoned off to unknown destinations by unknown persons( recall the nonsense about $500b being syphoned off from a $200b economy) Then there was the “expose” about “billions missing from the Petro-Caribe Fund” – another big lie demolished by the PPP in a recent statement . More recently, there was an announcement to the effect that “forensic audits are to be carried out at several state agencies.”.

Now in government, the AFC/APNU Coalition is like a dog chasing its tail having started the talk while in the opposition about ” corruption and wrong-doings” they are now, for all the wrong reasons carrying out a witch-hunt and forensic sleuthing to prove themselves right. And the way to go about doing it is to lend their ears to their sychophants and soup-drinkers who waste no time to dish up all kinds of fanciful stories which is music the ears of their principals.

In the circumstances, It is the view of the PPP that the Coalition have now become victims of their own propaganda.

The PPP condemns this state-sponsored campaign characterized by brazen and outright lies and vilification of the former PPP/C administration and its Ministers. Few will deny that a witch-hunt reminiscent of the McCarthy era in the United States is now moving fast and furious in Guyana and the main targets are those persons who, while employed by the PPP/C government openly exercised their Constitutional Right to Freedom of Association and Expression and who were discharging the lawful policies of the government of the day.

It is now clear that the “good life” which the Coalition so proudly speaks about is not for members and supporters of the PPP/C but exclusively for the members and supporters of the AFC/APNU.                                              The PPP rejects this blatant discriminatory policy practiced by the Coalition. It openly contradicts the call by the Coalition for the PPP to enter into talks with the AFC/APNU on issues of national unity and shared governance.

The PPP wishes to make it clear that it will not be duped into entering in any such engagement at a time when its members and supporters are under attack by the political hierarchy of the Coalition and its underlings.

  1. If these guys didn’t do anything wrong , what is there to fear. Audits should make them come out smelling like a Rose. There approach should be ” bring it on” But what do we see from them. Hollering like a bitch. Something to hide? What is so glearingly hypocritical about their protest is – they did just this in 1992. Let the chips fall where they may. Seizures, jail, exposures.

  2. PPP with every utterance you are indicating your inability to govern us.
If you haven’t done anything wrong then why the big fuss you will get kudos.
Audit when regimes changes is always a must.

  3. If the previous government were transparent and accountable, there would have been audits of all these entities. Monies would have all been in the consolidated fund. All projects would have been open and therefore the new administration would not have to do these audits. They hid everything. How do you expect the new administration to do its work if they do not know what are or are not in the books? If there were wrong doings, then those have to be corrected and the piper must be paid.

  4. Let’s get one thing clear PPP/C, Guyanese are not IDIOTS, as you believed. If during your 23 years, you were doing the right thing by the people, and for the people, you would be pleased that the New Administration is being thorough! However, your constant protesting rings a lot of bells, very loudly, YOU HAVE A LOT TO HIDE, & YOU ARE WORRIED THAT THE MEDIA, WHICH YOU NO LONGER CONTROL, WILL FREELY PUBLISH YOUR SECRETS.

  5. Here sits the PeePeePee,
    On its enamel pitty-potty,
    Bytching and whining,
While searching for a silver lining.
It was only one year ago,
That it ran the entire show.
    But then the table turned,
    And it was badly burned.
    Stripped of power and fame,
It now plays the blame game with no shame,
It needs to be stripped in public,
    By Tom, Harry and Dick.
    Then slapped in the face,
And kicked in the lower back space.
    As long as the PeePeePee,
Is being run by Clement Rohee,
The Duck, the Rat, or vertically challenged Ash-knee,
It will never again govern our beloved country.

  6. Just a reminder PPP/C, it is called transparency and good governance. The PPP/C members are dictators that do not understand how to govern but understand theft , corruption, poor management and ignorance. You are not fit to serve us. We entrusted you with our daily life representation to build our nation and to serve us . Instead your service was to your immediate cronies and yourself. You continue to show us and the world that your motive was dictatorship and with dictatorship comes corruption, and not democratic governance and service to the nation.

It is our right to know what all of you crooks did with our money and our country. The facts are there, the new government is doing an excellent job, the media is doing its job of informing the nation of your inept service.

We entrusted you with our votes, but you became an internal collective beast You are unfit to serve this country in any capacity. You have neglected us, the workers, you have bankrupted most of our viable industries. Never caring for us, the nation. The facts are there.

We do not need any of you” birds of a feather” to serve this country, you are a disgrace.

  7. when you enter into a new house you , clean it, wipe the walls sweep, ect,
so you dont want this new goverment to clean house, ah come who wants a dirty, house
wrong-doers you say, what do you called being absent from parlement how would that be correc correct. you say
a thief is selfish and self centered all about him self, only
a tipical thief in guyana, will stand and keep, so much noise, and try To convience john public that he dd not take it, and his pocket,is busting with cheque books and cash, as you approch the truth the noise becms louder and louder, so if you did not , take any thing, just SHUT-UP

  8. Taking in to consideration the “political cleansing” that the PPP embarked on in October, 1992, they have no moral ground to accuse anyone of being “Arbitrary, vindictive & malicious”.

All persons who were appointed to positions because of their affiliation with the PPP should do the decent thing and resign. Kurshid Sattaur, Jagnarine Singh, Mahendra Sharma etc. must either resign or be fired.

  9. If you got nothing to hide, why complain! find the people’s money, give it back to the government, and you get amnesty! Otherwise, onward with the investigations.

  10. A bunch of corrupt, sore losers. Two months ago, who were giving the directive to the chronicle, to say all the slots were taken? Ramotar defended Ifran’s wealth whilst Rohee defended the ardent saver Ill gotten gains, let this forensic audit speak for itself. If you cannot do the time, yuh should never do de crime! Remember moon does run till day catch um! You people were running for 23 years.
