[www.inewsguyana.com] – Two State Media entities along with a private media house were chided this evening at a public rally organized by the political opposition for their reporting on political developments in the country.

Opposition Parliamentarian, Dr Rupert Roopnarine called on the hundreds of Guyanese gathered at the Square of the Revolution, Georgetown to boycott the state controlled National Communications Network (NCN) and the Guyana Chronicle newspaper.

“…We understand the manipulation and the nastiness of their threats and we will act on it,” Roopnarine told the gathering that erupted in applause.

He also chided privately operated Guyana Times and told citizens not to purchase the local daily.

“Do not buy the Chronicle or the Guyana Times and when you see Channel 11 comes on, change it.”IMG_20141114_182729

The Opposition MP says the information disseminated by these entities is poisonous to the citizenry.

“There is only so much poison you can take and they are pouring it into your eyes and ears,” he said.

His remarks were met with agreement by those gathered. The aforementioned agencies have been accused of being pro government and bias in its reporting by the Opposition.

In fact, the budget for NCN along with the Government Information Agency (GINA) failed to receive approval from the parliamentary political opposition over the last three years.

The Opposition has constantly complained of not receiving fair coverage from the aforementioned agencies.

  1. which nut will kill a business?
    which nut will stifle news?
which nut will ‘TELL’ you not to buy?
it is the nut who must be taken seriously.

  2. IT is time this corrupt PPP GOVT be voted out of office.

All right-thinking and patriotic Guyanese must vote the PPP out.

For the rest of Guyanese who vote race … you will become a pathetic and disgruntled minority race-voting group of people because soon you will realize that people are wising up and waking up and starting to see things for what they are and not be deceived by dishonest and sneaky politicians.

People will start to speak up against corruption and wrong-doings by their Governments regardless of who is in power. Governments will be forced to become accountable to the people.

All you race-voters who like to idolize, worship and exalt your Government and leaders, take note that soon the PPP empire will fall and crumble to pieces. You “garland” these politicians as if they are your gods, demi-gods and overlords who rule over you with an iron fist.

  3. Ramadin WHY ARE YOU ACTING LIKE THE PROVERBIAL OSTRICH? You are a disgrace to the Guyanese nation. You sit in your comfortable perch and look down with disdain on the suffers. WHO ARE YOU TO PASS JUDGEMENT WHEN YOU FEEL NO PAIN? GO HAVE A LIVE BIGOT!

  4. THIS IS BONDAGE ,MENTAL SLAVERY — A SHORTCUT TO ENSURE CONTINUED LOYALTY OF THEIR SUPPORTERS. THIS CALL SHOULD BE STRONGLY CONDEMNED BY ALL FREEDOM LOVING PEOPLES EVERYWHERE. SLAVERY IS OVER!!!! SHOULD THESE FELLOWS GET INTO POWER AGAIN, THEY WILL TELL GUYANESE WHAT TO EAT,WHAT NOT TO EAT,WHAT TO WEAR [FLOUR BAG CLOTHES] WHERE TO GO ,WHERE NOT TO GO ,AMONG OTHER THINGS. THEIR SUPPORTERS SHOULD RESIST THIS CALL TO SELF- IMPOSED SLAVERY.

  5. Ropenarine should tell the crowd there to first learn to read…
And in any case they dont buy news paper it chronice mirror gytimes sn kn lol
Someone should have told Ropenarine not to say that because he forget those are the depressed oppressed compressed people LOL
    POOR Rope Narine losing it

  6. GR This crowd is not Ropenarine crowd. Its PNC usual bussed in crowd. This crowd is not Ramjattan crowd. This crowd is not Nagamoottoo crowd. Poor Ropenarine had no other choice but to attend since he jumped in bed with PNC. If Grainger said it plain as daylight that he does not trust Nagamoottoo what make you or me or anyone for that matter thinks he trust Ropenarine?
Ramjattan / Nagamoottoo & Ropenarine will soon come to their full senses and realized they are only being used by PNC for short term gains..
Just wait and see…They said they want election..They said they are not afraid of election..You watch what will happen once elections are called..They will cry about wanting to change the constitution before they go to the polls..
    PNC transparent as jelly fish..
Simply put they do not want Indian rule but will use Indians against Indians to achieve their one goal..

  7. The struggle/ battle to rid the country of this dangerously corrupt gov’t lies on the shoulders and in the hands of all right-thinking patriotic Guyanese…..It is time the ” Bar Association(s)” follow up their condemnation of the ” Chatre Attorney General ” with serious and effective actions….Maybe a DAY OF PROTEST ! Down Tools ! Or join other groups and purposefully register your opposition and disgust for the continued embarrassment caused by the actions of this worthless government……Non action will defintely tarnish the profession…..Enough rethoric…! Enough intellectually ear-splitting analysis …! Enough letters to the Editors….! This situation is top heavy : Plenty talk with no action ! The government will exploit this particular weakness,a they usually do…….Only the Almighty will help us if we ignore the doctrine of Collective Responsibility…….Rally on…..

  8. Quote: “The Opposition has constantly complained of not receiving fair coverage from the aforementioned agencies”.

I recall there was a series of debates on corruption hosted by NCN. Roopnarine should explain to his audience why his party, the PNC aka APNU “ducked” out. Here was your chance for coverage on NCN. Why did you abstain??

Roopnarine is a disgraced politician snatching at anything for survival. He seems to live in the past. Does this guy realize almost anything is available digitally. What kind of empty call is he making? A more “sensible” plea would’ve been for businesses to stop advertising in the dailies, but then again there were no businessmen in the audience. That too would’ve been another empty call. This guy is simply empty and done.
