Agriculture Ministry taking measures against flood waters

[www.inewsguyana.com] – The Ministry of Agriculture in an advisory to the public, especially those in Regions Two and Three says that the National Drainage and Irrigation Authority (NDIA) and the Region Administrations are taking all measures to ensure that flood waters recede.

iNews has confirmed that several coastal areas in Regions Two and Three are under water due to  heavy downpour of rain over the last twelve hours.

According to the Agriculture Ministry, so far all Kokers in these areas are functioning to ensure that the water drains off-land in a timely manner.

However, the NDIA is cautioning persons to assist by unblocking all internal drains in residential areas.

The Ministry of Agriculture has also assured that the situation is under control. Cabinet Ministers and other Government officials, and engineers will also be visiting affected areas later today.

Residents in low lying and riverain areas are being asked to take precautionary measures against rising water levels.
