AFC raises Amaila Hydro Project loan with Chinese Ambassador

The Alliance For Change (AFC) met yesterday, Tuesday August 6 with Chinese Ambassador to Guyana H.E Zhang Limin and held wide ranging talks.

According to the Party, the AFC took the opportunity to express its highest regards for the Government and people of China and for the continued support provided by China to the people of Guyana.

A number of issues of concern to both sides were discussed. Among these were the future of the Amaila Falls Hydropower Project, the Cheddi Jagan International Airport Expansion Project and the 2013 National Budget.

On the matter of the Amaila Falls Hydropower Project, the AFC assured Ambassador Zhang of the Party’s unequivocal support for the exploration and development of sustainable energy in Guyana.

The Party reiterated its position that it is awaiting the report on the feasibility study being done by the Inter-American Development Bank. The AFC also shared its concerns regarding the project including, the end cost to the Guyanese people, the interest rates on loan provided by China Development Bank and the capacity of GPL to efficiently manage electricity provided by the project.

The AFC Delegation was led by Party Leader Khemraj Ramjattan and included General Secretary David Patterson, Vice-Chairman Moses Nagamootoo MP, Chairman of the Party’s Region Four Management Committee Daniel Fraser and Communications Manager Beverley Alert.
