64 – Year – old admits to stealing, remanded to prison

court[www.inewsguyana.com] – Sixty – four- year-old Oswald Norton, who confessed to stealing cash and gold jewellery from a woman at Bourda Market was remanded to prison pending a probation report, which is expected to be provided today.

Norton pleaded guilty to the offence which stated that on May 14 at Bourda Market, Georgetown, he stole $199, 000 worth in gold jewellery and $10,000 cash, property of Patricia Bovell.

He told the Court that he does some masonry and carpentry work and has no prior or pending matters. He apologized for committing the offence and offered to repay.

According to the Prosecution facts, the virtual complainant went to the market where Norton works. The complainant gave him a bag to carry when he told her to go ahead to the car and he will follow.

Police Prosecutor, Michael Grant said the defendant placed the bag in the car’s trunk and after the victim arrived home, she discovered her purse with the articles mentioned missing.

Bovell immediately reported the matter to the Kitty Police station.
