$5,000 fine for man who assaulted woman, damaged stall

[www.inewsguyana.com] – A 63 – year – old man (no address given) was today fined $5,000 on an assault and damaging property charges.

Tim Everley pleaded guilty to both charges, before Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

The Court heard that on November 22 at Cornhill Street, Georgetown, he unlawfully and maliciously damaged a stall valued $13,500, property of Odessa Clark during which he assaulted her.

Police Prosecutor, Dinero Jones told the Court that Clark is a vendor in the vicinity of Demico when on the day in question, Everly, who was under the influence of alcohol pushed one of his friends into the stall.

The Complainant spoke to Everley and in response; he cursed her and hit her in the bosom. The matter was reported and he was arrested.

He was given four weeks to repay the victim for her damaged stall with a default of six months imprisonment. As it relates to the assault charge, a default in paying the fine will result in seven days imprisonment.
