[www.inewsguyana.com] – A 25-year-old man, who was found with a firearm and ammunition, was on Monday, April 13 sentenced to four years in jail.

Aldren Adonis was caught by the police on a foot chase, after they saw him with a gun in his arm.

On April 06 at Campbellville Housing Scheme, Georgetown, Adonis was found with a 9mm pistol, along with five live matching rounds. The father of one admitted to both charges.

According to the prosecution, at around 19:00 hours, the police were on patrol duties when they saw the defendant walking with the firearm in his hand. The defendant upon seeing them, attempted to escape, however, he was caught.

He allegedly told the police, he borrowed the gun from someone called ‘police’, in January.

Magistrate Judy Latchman, after considering that Adonis did not waste the court’s time, and the seriousness and prevalence of the matter, handed down the 48 months sentence on each charge. The two sentences will run concurrently.
