Woman remanded for trafficking two teenage girls

A woman was today charged with two counts of Trafficking in Person. It is alleged that onMay 15 of this year, at Issano, Essequibo Sequila Glywn transported a 26 – year – old female from Georgetown to 14 Mile Issano.

It is also alleged between May 15 and July 7, Glywn trafficked a 16 – year – old girl from the North West District. The woman pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The court was told that the defendant is a shop owner and that she trafficked the girls for exploitation and prostitution. The matter was brought to the attention of the police by the Guyana Women Miner’s Association.

Attorney Roysdale Ford represented the defendant and told the court that she is 41- years – old and has a fixed place of abode at Caneville on the East Bank Demerara.

He also requested for reasonable bail which was objected to by the prosecution based on the seriousness and prevalence of the offence. Magistrate Azore remanded Sequila Glywn until September 20.
