Businessman to do community service for possession of narcotics

A man appeared before Magistrate Fabayo Azore at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court charged with possession of narcotics.

It is alleged that on August 21 at the Kurupukari Landing; Andave Thakur had in his possession 4.2 grams of cannabis. He pleaded guilty to the charge which stated that on the day in question, ranks from the police narcotics branch went to the business place of the defendant and conducted a search.

The substance was found in the pocket of a pair of pants which was next to where he was sitting. The court was told that Thakur admitted to using the cannabis.

Thakur was represented by Attorney Roysdale Ford who told the court that his client is 42 years old and has five children and a wife who is pregnant. He said Thakur is self employed at a restaurant and is regretful for what has happened.

The lawyer also requested that the minimum fine be imposed. Magistrate Azore sentenced Thakur to three months community service, every Friday for two hours starting from August 30.
