[www.inewsguyana.com] – Police Investigators are currently on the hunt for a suspect in the shooting to death of Tactical Services Unit Constable Michael Cumberbatch in his North Sophia home on Monday night, September 23.
This is according to Crime Chief and Deputy Commissioner of Police Seelall Persaud. He could not confirm however whether three men were in police custody in relation to the crime as reported in some sections of the media.
Thirty – year – old year old Michael Cumberbatch was shot dead, reportedly execution style, in his 111 North Sophia home.
Residents in the area told iNews that they saw three men going into the dead man’s yard around 21:00hrs. The residents related that they heard an argument between the policeman and the three men moments later, during which they heard the policeman shouting “come out meh yard, come out meh yard!”
According to residents, they then heard two gun shots rang out and soon after saw the three men running from the premises. They said no one chased after the men, but rather rushed to the policeman who appeared to have been shot to his neck and chest.
He was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Meanwhile, iNews spoke with the dead man’s mother Jacqueline Cumberbatch who related how difficult it is for her to absorb the unfortunate news. “I don’t know what to say, I’m confused” she said.
She described her son as a very “easy going and quite person” and said she could not understand why he met such a fate. Cumberbatch leaves to mourn a wife and two children.
