Update: 13 injured in aircraft crash, GCCA team ordered to investigate

A total of 13 persons received injuries in this morning’s aircraft crash at Matthew’s Ridge, Region One.

Also injured is the Pilot, Captain Feriel Ally. The aircraft crash landed just short of the Matthew’s Ridge airstrip, as a result of bad weather, Public Works Minister Robeson Benn told reporters today.

Those injured were transported back to Ogle Airport, following the accident. It is reported that one person sustained a broken leg. Some of the injured were taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation, Woodlands, Mercy and Balwant Singh Hospitals for treatment. DSC00540

Minister Benn said a team from the Guyana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) has been sent into Region One for the purposes of investigation and recovery. He said the plane crashed during bad weather and may have been written off.

The Cessena Caravan aircraft is attached to Air Services and left the Ogle Airport around 7:00h this morning. According to reports, the accident occurred just around 8:00h.
