Top achievers awarded

award[www.inewsguyana.com]Guyana today (Thursday, October 31) awarded outstanding performers at the National Grade 6 assessment, CSEC, CAPE, CPCE, Technical Education and Carnegie school of home economics.

Salma Majeed, Christian Pile and Navindra Persaud received awards for their performance at the National Grade Six assessment while Yogeeta Persaud, Rafena Mustapha, Parmeshwarie Seodat and Zimeena Rasheed were awarded for their outstanding performance at CSEC.

Guyana has also copped five of the eight regional awards and those students were singled out for special awards.

The two top performers at CSEC and CAPE will also be granted scholarships compliments of the Guyana Government to study at a university of their choice.

Addressing the awards ceremony was Education Minister Priya Manickchand, who noted that while significant progress has been made in this sector, government is conscious that more work needs to be done.

Additionally, Prime Minister Samuel Hinds urged the education leaders to focus on areas that need improvements.

Meanwhile, the Regional Awards which are given out by the Caribbean Examinations Council will be held in Guyana on December 5, 2013. The last regional awards held here was in 1999. [Akash Ramlackhan]
