Officials from the National Drainage and Irrigation Authority (NDIA), were up to late last night working feverishly to temporarily fix the kofi sluice breakage at Friendship, East Bank Demerara.

Chief Executive Officer of the NDIA, Lionel Wordsworth told iNews during a telephone interview last evening that he received a report about the incident around 6:30h.

According to Mr. Wordsworth, the breakage was due to the high tide, which completely dislocated the position of the sluice.

The CEO explained that the breakage has affected some farmlands on the southern side of the canal.

The NDIA quickly mobilised equipment and temporarily sealed off the sluice, while work on a permanent fixture will commence today, Friday August 23, Mr. Wordsworth told iNews.
