Eighteen-year-old Stefon Howard and 19-year-old Shawn De Santos, both residents of Freeman Street, East La Penitence, Georgetown, where the murder occurred, were not allowed to plead to the charge.

The charge alleged that, they, on September 24 2017 at Lot 194 Freeman Street, East La Penitence, murdered 58-year-old Fazal Shaheed, a resident of Lot 18 Albion, Corentyne, Berbice.

Both men who appeared before the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts unrepresented were remanded to prison and will reappear on October 19 2017.

On the day of the tragedy, the dead man and his two brothers- Talin Shaheed, 50, of Toronto, Canada and Shalim Shaheed,53, of the United States- who were also injured, were preparing for their father’s memorial service.

Reports are that two masked men stormed into the property via a door which was unlocked and attacked the three men who were sitting in the living room of the Freeman Street house, taking off their jewellery.

However, before fleeing the scene, the gunmen fired shots in the direction of the three victims before making good their escape.

The men were all rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) for treatment but Fazal Shaheed succumbed to his injuries while undergoing surgery.

The perpetrators were later picked up by Police and one reportedly confessed to the crime.
