Taxi driver accused of fraudulent conversion placed on $50,000 bail

bailA taxi driver on Thursday appeared before Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts charged with fraudulent conversion.

Stephon Buckett, 22, of Lot 264 Bissessar Street, Prashad Nagar, Georgetown, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

It is alleged that on January 19, 2016 at Prashad Nagar, he was solely entrusted by Joshua Williams with one laptop computer valued $150,000 in order that he may pawn the computer and bring the proceeds to Williams, but he fraudulently converted the proceeds for his own use and benefit.

Police Prosecutor Deniro Jones had no objections to bail and it was granted in the sum of $50,000.

The case will continue on March 9, 2016.
