Swimmers named for international competition

National Aquatic Centre[www.inewsguyana.com] – The Guyana Amateur Swimming Association has named a 60 member contingent for various International Competitions later in the year.

According to the National Training Squad Committee (NTSC) Association (GASA), the team will head into training ahead of the Goodwill games just around the corner.

Their international competitions include Caribbean Islands Swimming Championships in Barbados in July, The Commonwealth Games In scotland,; followed by the Inter Guiana Games (July) and Youth Olympic Games (July/August).

The selected squad will be under the guidance of Head Coach, Mr. Sean Baksh along assistants Ms. Stephanie Fraser and Cuban coach, Ms. Isabel Couso Fals.

Addressing the parents as well as the selected team, were Sean Baksh and newly elected President of GASA Mr. Ivan Persaud both of whom stressed discipline and dedication from the swimmers.

Persaud reassured those gathered that the best management team has been assigned to prepare the young swimmers.

Guyana will be represented at the Carifta Games 2014 set for Aruba from April 22 to 26 by a three member team; Britany van Lange and Soroya Simmons in pool with Stephanie Fraser as coach.

The Goodwill Games in Suriname will be from August 15 -17 and will see The final touring squad for both boys and girls being named at the Time Trials set for 4th to 6th July, 2014.

Named swimmers include Antonio Hussein, Samuel Clark, Monique Watson, Alisha Rambarran, Darius Duncan, Chelsea Deane and others.
