Suspected drunk duo ditch accident scene; friend taken into custody

[www.inewsguyana.com] – Three young men were able to escape serious injuries after their burgundy Toyota Fielder Wagon PMM 6282 crashed on the East Bank Demerara Highway on Sunday evening.

iNews understands that the car was reportedly traveling north along the highway in the vicinity of Rahaman’s Park, when the driver lost control, resulting in the vehicle flipping several times before coming to a halt in an upright position, forcing the occupants to crawl out of it.

According to information received, the young men were drinking at a night spot on the East Bank of Demerara and were heading to another bar in the city when the accident occurred.

Eyewitnesses reported that the occupants removed several bottles of rum and beers from the wrecked car and dumped them into a nearby trench along with the registration plate of the vehicle.

When the police arrived at the scene, two of the young men were still trying to remove valuables from the crashed vehicle and after realizing the police had arrived, persons forced the driver and one of his friends into another vehicle which left the scene, while only one of the occupants was taken into custody.

The police were also able to recover the registration plate and a bottle of rum from the trench.
