[www.inewsguyana.com] – Slingerz FC are the first time champions of the Vitamalt /Aqua Mist sponsored WDFA Knockout Cup after defeating Den Amstel 4-1 on penalty kicks on Friday, December 26 at the Den Amstel Community ground.

With $1M up for grabs, both teams played aggressively in the opening minutes with Slingerz FC the more attacking of the two.

Boasting their strong frontline, Slingerz kept pushing the pace that paid dividends early when Devon Millington rocked the left hand corner of the net in the third minute of the game.

With the home crowd a bit silenced, Travis Hillman would score the equaliser for Den Amstel to bring the crowd alive in the 39th minute as the first half and eventually the game ended 1-1 before Slingerz’s eventual penalty win.

Meanwhile, in the third place playoff, Pouderoyen FC topped Uitvlugt Warriors 3-1.

Keon Duke opened the scoring for Uitvlugt Warriors in the third minute through a penalty conversion. Marvin Frank would equalise in the 18th minute while Lloyd Prince netted in the 43rd minute to end the first half 2-1.

Prince then sealed the deal in the 72nd minute slotting home an unchallenged strike in the centre of the six yard area to walk away with the $300,000 third place prize.
