[www.inewsguyana.com] – President Donald Ramotar has committed to aiding the sport of karate. During a meeting with Head of the International Karate Diagaku Sensei Frank Woon-A- Tai, the President agreed to assist the Federation in whatever way he can to ensure its growth.

Sensei Woon- A- Tai conferred the President with an honorary 7th Dan Black Belt. The award grants the President the powers of one of the sport’s highest gradings, offering him the status of one of the sport’s most respected officials.

Woon – A – Tai, who is in the country for the IDK’s South American Cup thanked the President for taking the time out to meet him.

Meanwhile, the South American Cup, which will be held at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall this weekend, will feature several international clubs.

According to the Sensei, they have received positive responses from Venezuela and Suriname but French Guiana could not attend due to cost reasons.

Nonetheless, the two day event which begins on Saturday will see over 100 participants in Kata, Kumite and Bunkai. The event begins from 09:00 on Saturday and 10:00 on Sunday.
