[www.inewsguyana.com] – General Secretary of the People’s Progressive Party (PPP) Clement Rohee has asserted that the Party will pay all of its outstanding debts for advertisements from the 2015 General and Regional elections campaign.

This comes on the heels of reports that the PPP owes over $13.5M to the National Communications Network (NCN) for political advertisements aired by the state-owned media entity.

Reports indicate that since May 27, NCN’s Marketing Manager, Raymond Azeez, had written to the Party with a gentle reminder that the monies were owed; however several letters later and the PPP is yet to respond to NCN.

When questioned by journalists on Monday June 22 at the Party’s weekly press conference at Freedom House, Rohee stated that the Party in fact owes several entities sums of monies for advertisements during the campaign season.

He made it clear that that Party is aware of its outstanding financial debts and that it intends to honour these debts; he however could not state when the PPP would be doing so.

“We will pay,” he bluntly stated when asked for a timeframe on the payments by iNews.

In May, it was reported that the Guyana Water Inc (GWI) and a local company were in a heated debate over payments for PPP/C political billboards that were billed to the state company.

When the bills, which amounted to some $7M, were forwarded to GWI, the company flat-out refused to accept responsibility for them citing some grave modifications and specific designs had been agreed upon by both sides.
