Pollard’s Mumbai Indians hold off Chris Gayle’s Royal Challengers

[www.inewsguyana.com] – Kieron Pollard’s Mumbai Indians side gathered some much needed momentum on Tuesday (May 06), following a 19 run win over the Royal Challengers Bangalore in a lone match of the 7th Indian Premier League.

After losing the toss at home, the Mumbai Indians had no choice but to bat first, managing to make it to 187 for the loss of 5 wickets.

At the top of the order, Chidhambaram Gautam played a patient 30 from 28 balls while Captain Rohit Sharma took the fight to the RCB side, hammering his way to 59 inclusive of 3 fours and 4 sixes off just 35 balls.

Pollard ended the innings off with a bang thanks to his 43 from 31 balls which included 6 fours.

Ashok Dinda picked up one wicket in his three overs for 38 runs, while Harshal Patel, Varun Aaron and Yuzvendra Chahal each had 1 wicket as well from 4 overs.

In the chase, Chris Gayle started sluggish but eventually dropped the hammer putting on 53 with Parthiv Patel in just 5 overs to showcase the RCB batting prowess.

Patel ended his knock on 26 and Gayle picked up more ending on 38 from 24 balls with 3 fours and 3 sixes.

Skipper Virat Kholi hammed his way to 35 as well for 28 balls with 2 fours and 2 sixes before he also departed while AB de Villers failed to follow up his dominant performance against the Sunsirsers Hyderabad , only making 9.

Rilee Rossouw was the only other batsman to get into double figures as RCB saw their overs expire on 168 for the loss of 8 wickets. Harbajan Singh, Jasprit Bumrah and Lasith Malinga each had 2 wickets off 4 overs for 22,33 and 29 respectively.

Tomorrow will bring together the Delhi Daredevils and the Kolkata Knight Riders from 06:30 and then the Chennai Superkings will face the Kings 11 Punjab in a fire cracker from 10:00.
