Police probing alleged $3 million fraud at GPHC

[www.inewsguyana.com] – The Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) has finally spoken out on reports of an alleged fraud at the institution which was discovered last week.

According to management in a statement, the Police and the Auditor General’s Office are currently investigating the act. iNews has been trying to confirm these allegations since Friday last (September 27) but could not make contact with the relevant authorities.

The Hospital’s Chief Executive Officer Michael Khan was said to be out of the country. According to information reaching iNews, the fraud involves a female cashier attached to the finance department of the institution.

iNews was reliably informed that the  woman who is alleged of embezzling approximately $3 million is currently off the job and may be in police custody. The woman has not admitted to the allegations. It is still unclear to iNews how the discovery was made. However, the Corporation has promised to make public more information as it becomes available.
