The People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR) is horrified at the state of neglect and disrepair of one of Guyana’s top secondary institution, President’s College.

In a press statement issued today, the PNCR stated that their observations have revealed that the institution, located at Golden Grove, East Coast Demerara, is falling apart and in a deplorable state of disrepair, less than two weeks before school is scheduled to reopen for the 2013 – 2014 school year.

“It is disgraceful, and a reflection of the approach to education by the People’s Progressive Party/Civic that the Minister of Education allows this premier school of excellence to show such signs of neglect and abandonment just as Guyana prepares to observe Education Month 2013,” the PNCR stated.

According to the Party, President’s College was one of the projects and schools built to elevate the development of education in Guyana and that tt was intended to institute a culture that would mold, propel and motivate students to become future leaders of our nation.

“Therefore, it is quite unfortunate that successive PPP Ministers of Education have not recognized the importance of investing time and resources to promote the concept which inspired the creation of Presidents’ College.”

According to the PNCR, the absence of laboratories for science and information technology; the poorly constructed and maintained sanitary blocks with no running water; the low  teachers to students ratio which result in large class room populations that make  learning, for some, not only a challenge but, in many cases, impossible.

“There was a glimmer of hope that there would have been some difference in the way Presidents College is administered with the appointment of a new young Education Minister, but sadly her Administration has demonstrated the depths of PPP spitefulness and determination to destroy, regardless of the consequences for the education of the children of Guyana, President’s College, simply because it was a ‘Burnham’ led initiative.”
