[] – The Ministry of the Presidency has dismissed accusations by the Peoples Progressive Party (PPP) that State resources were used and abused for the 70th birthday celebrations of President David Granger on Wednesday, July 15.

According to a press release from the Ministry, the birthday luncheon to commemorate the birth anniversary which was held at the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) Base Camp Ayangana, cost the taxpayers of Guyana absolutely nothing.

“No State resources were used. This event was organized and paid for the ‘Friends of David Granger’, a grouping that includes retired Army Officers residing in Guyana and the Diaspora and business and professional men and women who have supported the President’s political career for over five years,” the release noted.

“Further, let it be clear, once again, that no state resources were expended when government officials travelled to New York for the June 15, 2015 ‘Unity Rally’ which was organized by the Guyana Victory Committee, a group which includes, Guyanese Businessmen and women, Political supporters of the APNU+AFC, and Guyanese Americans living in the Tri-State area (New York, New Jersey, Connecticut). The cost for travel, food, accommodation and ground transportation were all underwritten by the organisers of this event.”

According to the release, “What the APNU+AFC government finds interesting in that release, however, is the PPP/Civic has finally admitted that during its tenure in office, they abused state resources.”

  1. As Commander-in-Chief, Granger is entitled to use any national security venue to celebrate his birthday. He served in the army, unlike the other commander-in-thief and commander-in-brief.

  2. Those bastards are making an assumption that state’s fund was used for the President’s birthday because that’s exactly what they used to do.

  3. The Guyana President’s Birthday Celebrations?

I presume, per diem or special privilege money is allocated, for celebrating the Birthday of anyone who holds this office.

It is customary in MOST countries, for the Head Of State’s Birthday to be celebrated. And funded by the state also.

The type of celebration, location, volume, and expenses incurred, vary from country to country.

A Happy, Peaceful, and Pleasant Birthday celebrations president David A. Granger.

  4. It still would be far less than jagdeo’s $7 M dollar plane ticket for his vacation.

  5. Why is his birthday at Camp Ayangana? That is using state resources. Did he pay a rent for the space?
