[www.inewsguyana.com]Following the continuous misinformation regarding the issuance of the Muri PGGS in the New River Triangle area, the Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, Robert Persaud has made an open challenge for debate to silence the critics.

He was at the time speaking at the Guyana Gold and Diamond Miners Association (GGDMA) annual Christmas dinner and dance on Wednesday evening (December 18) at the Pegasus Hotel which was also attended by President Donald Ramotar and Prime Minister Samuel Hinds.

For over a week now, there have been exchanges between Stabroek News, APNU’s Joseph Harmon and the Ministry of Natural Resources and the Environment and its mining regulatory agency, the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission (GGMC) regarding the issuance of the Muri PGGS.

iNews understands that the Ministry during this period provided a slew of facts to the media, Parliament and other relevant stakeholders to dispel the misinformation and vindictive attacks on the Minister and the GGMC.

However, this has had no effects on Stabroek News and Harmon.  Meanwhile, Minister Persaud pointed out that about this time last year, there was a no-confidence vote in the mining sector, and this time around a newspaper has expressed a no-confidence vote in him for being “too pro-mining.”
